Navya’s Cab – First Self-Driving Electric Car …

At CES 2018, Navya demonstrated its Autonom Cab, which for most people will probably be their first time in an autonomous car. You’re not likely to buy a self-driving car anytime soon, but you may end up riding in one. Navya is already deploying its Autonom Shuttle for public transportation in select areas around the world, and showed off its Autonom Cab at CES 2018, a newer vehicle which will see public tests this year 2018.

The Autonom Cab, designed for ride-hailing services, leaves out the driver controls entirely in what is known as a Level 5 autonomous vehicle. Self-driving cars, being developed by automakers, startups, automotive equipment suppliers and big tech companies, have the potential to prevent of mitigate accidents that cause over a millions deaths worldwide each year. How Autonom Cab works?

Users can order AUTONOM CAB (Fluid experience) with a simple click, open and close the vehicle’s door and start its motor, all thanks to the dedicated smartphone application. While inside, they can choose their own playlist, obtain tourist information or finish ordering tickets for a show.

Able to drive on the open road, AUTONOM CAB benefits from the world’s most sophisticated multi-sensor technology. The sensors provide the computer with information. It then makes decisions and acts on them.

10 LiDARS – Using laser technology to measure distance, Lidar sensors perceive the vehicle’s surrounding in three dimensions. They ensure detection of obstacles and calculate the vehicles’s positioning. Autonom CAB uses the worlds tow best types of Lidar technology VLP Lidars from Velodyne provide 360-degree peripheral vision and SCALA Lidars form Valeo are capable of seeing at distance greater than 200 meters.

6 cameras – Cameras analyze the vehicle’s surroundings in particular road signs and traffic lights. With “Deep-learning” algorithms, the cameras detact the calegorize obstacles.

4 radars – Radars determine the position and speed of nearby objects. They ensure long-distance vision.

2 GNSS antennae – GNSS antenna are linked to a GNSS RTK system that provides precise positioning accurate to the nearest centimeter.

1 inertial measurement unit (IMU) – The IMU measures vehicle accelerations and rotations, thereby allowing the vehicle to confirm positioning information and improve precision.

4 Odometry – The odometry sensor estimates and confirms the vehicle’s location and speed while it is moving.

V2X – AUTONOM CAB comes equipped with a V2X (OBU) device enabling it to interconnect with all types of urban infrastructure, particularly traffic lights.

4G – The vehicle is equipped with a MODEM meaning that it can communicate with the NAVYA supervision center (even though the vehicle does not need to be connected permanently).

in order to handle all traffic situations that occur in an urban setting. Able to reach 80 km/hour, AUTONOM CAB’s operational speed is 50 km/hour. Its 22-kilowatt-hour battery pack lets it operate for about 10 hours as a robo-taxi.

Deployment of Autonom Cabs around the world

Navya claims that over 260,000 people have already ridden in its Autonom Shuttle, an earlier self-driving vehicle designed to drive a prescribed route, similar to a municipal bus. The Autonom Cab is designed to be more flexible, taking people where they need to go in an urban area.

The Autonom Cab’s electric drivetrain isn’t designed for personal car driving dynamics. Its top speed is 55 mph, and it is designed to travel comfortably at about 35 mph, suitable for most urban and suburban areas.
